BTW I use a variation of CAN called CANaerospace (higher-level protocol.) and you can send it over an Ethernet cable. one twisted pair, and one more for ground. More info is here on my website. smarthab.us btw this will open in new browser window.

RE: The Smart Room Project - Current Phase

Very nice project and well written up.

I'm a big fan of MIT App Inventor, particularly for Bluetooth control from my Phone, so I was very pleased to see that you have used it.

Good luck with your next venture

Neil

RE: The Smart Room Project - Current Phase

Excellent project and detailed write up. I really like that you have plans for future additions to make it even more useful.

The 'cable holders' you used are the right way to go about securing mains cabling, it is good that you have used them to grip around the cable insulation and not the cores. We would refer to them as cable glands, or some refer totem as stuffing glands or compression glands.

You have used glass fuses, I am not sure what is available in your country or what the fault current would be within your houses, but for mains applications, the use of ceramic bodied fuses, known as high rupturing capacity (HRC) or high breaking capacity (HBC) fuses would be a good safety improvement. They can withstand higher energy levels and will remain intact when a fault occurs.

Kind regards

RE: The Smart Room Project - Current Phase

Hi Milos,

That is a well written up project: plenty of great detail, videos and code.
