Arduino Day, the worldwide celebration of Arduino, is on March 16th. We are celebrating Arduino with an Arduino MKR in the Cloud Projects!

Project14 will celebrate its second birthday on April 14th. A Live Stream and a Month of Robots will be a part of the festivities!

Winners Announcement to coincide with the release of the first Star Wars movie on May 25th, 1977!

The theme this month is IoT: In the Cloud and the idea comes from tonydbeck is challenge allows you to build any projects that make use of a wireless technology and a cloud provider (AWS, Google Cloud, io.adafruit, Dweet, Blynk, Cayenne - My Devices, Particle, etc). Projects could include cloud connected home security system, Environmental monitoring (Temp, humidity, air quality etc), Industrial data logger with online data logging, baggage tracker utilising GPS and Sigfox network, Smart garage door opener, Energy monitoring, and more. It also coincides with Arduino Day, last year we celebrated Arduino Day with Open Arduino , an open ended Arduino competition. This year, Arduino Day is on March 16th, so we are dedicating this project theme to Arduino Day by including an Arduino IoT Grand Prize kit and Arduino IoT kits for the first place finishers. If you are just getting started with IoT projects, we encourage you to check out Arduino Projects for Arduino Day 2019: Arduino MKR Projects in the Cloud! where you'll find an overview of how to get started with an Arduino IoT project using the Arduino IoT Cloud, currently in beta. Currently it supports an the Arduino MKR 1000 board, the MKR 1010 board, and the Arduino GSM 1400 board. In the future you will also be able to connect to the Arduino Cloud service using the Arduino MKR Vidor 1400 boards, as well as, the always popular Arduino Uno.

You're free to use whatever hardware or cloud service platform you choosing. Some more examples of IoT projects you can create include automatic pet feeders, mini-lifts, smart thermostats, robots, soil moisture level monitors, and solar power meters. IoT, is short for the Internet of Things, and refers to the ability to connect physical devices to the internet. In the past, Wifi modules such as Xbee, because of cost and degree of difficulty, were a barrier for many people wanting to do IoT projects. Then came the ESP8266, which is a really popular choice for IoT projects. You could for example use an ESP8266 with IFTTT service to open up a world of possibilities for your IoT project. In his Home Automation Mojo You Must Know Part 2: Notification blog post Sean_Miller goes over what this is. You may recall he used this with Long Shower = Candle Power as you can see from the following video:

The IOT Wind Chimes by fmilburn uses an inexpensive ESP-8266. He provides some really good resources for learning in his post to get started using an IFTTT service with adafruit.io. unleashed the power of IFTT with his Upcycle It Grand Prize winning Upcycled Clock and recently used . The ESP8266 is a real game-changer, using simple modules and a device, you can easily re-purpose your existing project to an IoT project. You can get constant updates and alerts from sensors in your project and activate devices from a remote location. There also great for Home Automation projects. Creating IoT projects means you'll need some sort of connectivity component or module, that will allow you to monitor and control your device from a remote location.In some cases, you'll use local connections, in order to connect to another device, and through that device, you establish a connection to the internet. These components into two main groups:

Internet-enabled microcontrollers
Dedicated connectivity modules:

Other popular IoT modules include NodeMCU, ESP8266-1, Raspberry Pi, Photon, the Arduino MKR line offers exciting IoT possibilities that are just being tapped, and of course there are a lot of examples of really cool IoT projects that you can do using an Arduino Uno or Nano.

Your project could introduce something new or that is not commercially available or affordable! List the Steps	Submit Video Proof
Provide the steps you took to complete your project (text, video, or images). This could be a step by step how-to-guide, vlog, schematics, coding, napkin drawings, voice narration, or whatever you think will be useful!	If it doesn't work that's fine, this is more about the journey than the end product. A short video is all that is required but you can shoot as much video as you like. You are encouraged to be creative and have as much fun as possible!
