Tick-Tock Time to get your Groove On

I've been playing a bunch of rhythm games recently, and I feel like I need a metronome to keep time with the beat.

What're your plans and thoughts for entering this competition?

This made me go search around the house so I can find the one I got as a birthday present from my parents when I was in elementary school. I just loved going through all of the projects, I was so thrilled when I got it!

I'm a giging drummer in as one of my other hobbies. I have dabbled with metronomes in the pass. I might try to implement one for this Project14 challenge

Hmmm... 'The Envelope Strikes Back' ? 🙂

I guess you could hook some up to a MCU using digital pots for control of the analogue side and then build an 'orchestra' out of the different classic arcade game sounds.

I am thinking of designing a MIDI interface to a polyphonic synthesizer, based on a voice module that can be added in multiples. The idea is to build a voice module containing: programmable oscillator (digital - fulfilling the Tick-Tock part), envelope generator (ADSR - Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release - digital/analog), programmable filter (Lowpass, Bandpass or Highpass - digital/analog).

Now all I need to time enough to do this. I have started my design and then I had some orders placed that will be eating up a lot of my time (along with a bunch of cleanup projects due to weather damage).

The TI SN76477 was used for sound effects in 70's arcade games. 28-pin DIP.

For this project, I first went down a rabbit hole looking for the PN of a monster size IC from the late 70s that was supposedly used for sound effects. Not finding that PN, my conclusion lines up with your reply, why mess with ancient stuff, should be forward looking.

I've been on a journey to dive deeper into music instrumentation, starting with some retro sound synthesizer chips. I am now progressing to much more capable music synthesizers from this century.

That's a nice kit. I remember the old days when I used to buy DIY kits and solder them myselfs. Never worked in first try but just buying the kits, soldering them and getting them to work had another level of excitement and fun

Most of the Science Fair x-in-One kits had a metronome project.

A couple "WrongCo" style musical gadgets come to mind, but a clock doesn't really fit naturally with a musical instrument/gadget project. Maybe have to consider the clock part application figuratively.

I was thinking of maybe making a Tesla Coil speaker or some kind of a cool clock combining electronics with some intricate mechanism.
