This is a nice mod!.

If you consider the fishing line may fail in the future there is coated Steel wire -I've seen it used in arts & crafts and hobby- it is flexible, can be of thin Gage and probably may be a better option.

Looks like an interesting project. Those little DC motors are great. I am using them in my latest mobile robot. It would be good to get some idea of the limits ofo these DC motors, such as how long they might last in this type of activity. I still have my original front door lock after many years and it would be interesting to know if the DC motor would have the same life -time.

Very cool modification of the nightlatch assembly. The movement looks good, looking forward to to seeing the final assembly.
