I am thinking also at curved slider for camera

I've seen a few curved ones when I was looking around.

Many of them were designed for flat surfaces and were almost a large wheeled robot.

If you used encoders on the wheel (or even better a trailing wheel) you could measure how far the platform shifted.

The simply manual ones had the front and rear axle adjustable so they went in a curve, rather than straight.

This may be easy to reproduce and have one wheel being driven.
