Excellent well written blog. Your situation is no different to my industry where we will nurse units through to an outage period planned in advance. Sometimes there are long lead times on parts required for repairs, so condition monitoring allows units to be operated under heavy monitoring, instead of shutting them down and waiting for parts.

There is also a large move to analysis of process data, to attempt to pick up patterns in parameters that could be indicative of wear on plant.

Good explanation of the problem and the background information. The great thing with Rosemount equipment is they can operate in a wide range of temperatures and last for decades because they are so well built. What are the conditions that the Arduino Mega lives in, temperature controlled? Your solution to the stated problem is great but I worry about the reliability of the Arduino. Do you plan to migrate it to industrial rated boards?

I wonder about all this - when the insurance company hears about this will they want continue providing cover ?

If the data from this system is used to make decisions which affect safety (which it seems to) they might want some assurance that it is correct.
