Following on from the prod from Tariq that was sent in my goodies bag, this is my rather basic entry into the Project14 RF competition, which will allow me .

RE: PDTect_RF Partial Discharge Detector

Hello kindly share email with me I have a question

RE: PDTect_RF Partial Discharge Detector

Hi Donald,

should be a great task for the MDO34, to capture the RF from a partial discharge!

I admire you that you found time for this project while evaluating the MDO scope.

Best,

Gerrit.

RE: PDTect_RF Partial Discharge Detector

Hi Donald,

Great project! It's interesting seeing what situations out there need RF measurement. I was looking at a Maxim app note, and it was suggesting a 'bug detector' as a use-case! but your scenario makes for more interesting reading.

I don't know if it's needed or not, maybe if the bursts are narrow, an audio output could allow the clicks to be heard from the output of the RF power meter type circuits mentioned on Mike's post Field Strength Meter

Or some peak detector, or trigger circuit. Maybe one way could be to use a comparator (with potentiometer to set the expected power level, or switches to set it if it is based on some standard value) that triggers a flip-flop. I don't know what the commercial tools would do.

By the way what enclosure are you using? It looks nice from the photo, but I couldn't see a photo of the front of it. The photo album feature doesn't seem to be working for me at least : (

RE: PDTect_RF Partial Discharge Detector

For some reason, the video was not showing, so have re-attached it.

Kind regards

RE: PDTect_RF Partial Discharge Detector

Hi Donald,

I look forward to seeing this works when you get the test set up - it is a clever way to do it in a way I had never thought about. It is really great that things like the display are getting so easy to set up - a great improvement over not that many years ago.

Frank

RE: PDTect_RF Partial Discharge Detector

Interesting project, I look forward to seeing your results.

DAB
