Element14 NFC/RFID contest will be a good opportunity for me to learn more about NFC applications. I love reading books and doing projects, but I am not a good manager for my activities. I would like to build my own reading activity tracking system on PN7120 + Raspberry Pi platform. I used to track my reading activity via Excel spreadsheet, which was not very efficient. The book reading tracker empowered by NFC technology will encourage me to read more books in a better way.

The core hardware on OM5577/PN7120SM is NXP PN7120 NFC controller. I will learn how to integrate PN7210 with Raspberry Pi 3B. OM5577 did give me a sample NFC card for the experiment. I might need more NFC tags from Amazon for this project. What name is the project? I will figure it out this weekend. I am not sure there are suitable apps for my tracking system from Raspberry Pi open-source forums or not. I need to do more research before I decide to design a tracking system from scratch.

Last also not the least, I do need a fun user interface for my reading activity tracker so that I know I am on-track for the book reading plan or not. If I have time, I would like to add some animations for my tracker to reward myself for finishing a book on time.

RE: Project14 | RFID or NFC: Win a Ready to Use NFC RFID Set!

We all see on the streets every day (probably everywhere in the world there is such a thing) some parking spaces specially arranged for vehicles that can be rented, I refer to bicycles and electric scooters. Simple bicycles that we drive by pedaling, but also electric ones. As well as scooters, which are preferred by young people to move faster over short and medium distances (a few kilometers). The idea is that these vehicles have some value and can "disappear" (that's why they have GPS installed), but I was thinking about the situation of electric vehicles that are not only placed in a stand (a mechanical vehicle locking system is needed in the stand), but which can be a charging station at the same time (we have access to a power cable).
Let's take for example a spot A (which can be in public space, or at work) where we have placed a stand for electric scooters or electric bicycles, we can charge them in this place, so we also have a charging station. I am located in spot B (home), I can go to work with my personal scooter because the distance is not very long. I reach my destination, I go to the stand and leave my scooter/bike there, but I want to find it there even after 8 hours. It would be interesting to have a system that, after checking in with an RFID tag, would block my scooter in the stand (a metal plate with a hole in the middle is mounted on the scooter, which is inserted into the stand and an electromagnet inside will catch the scooter, the result, electronic lock). Even more, having a unique RFID tag, the system recognizes me, knows who I am (secure customer), and even allows me to use the charger for the scooter (pull a wire to the scooter). Another strong point would be that thanks to this unique RFID, when I check out, my scooter will be unlocked, not someone else's, so there is no confusion. Or otherwise, each RFID corresponds to a single parking space.
For another type of application, we can use an NFC tag for payment. For example, paying for parking (it is assumed that I leave my vehicle in a safe place, so maybe I have to pay some money for this service). Also, if I own an electric vehicle, and I leave it in a place where I have access to electricity, I may have the opportunity to charge the battery, with the charger from the station or my personal one. I use an NFC tag and pay for 2 hours of electricity consumption (basically I bought electricity on the spot).
We can also look at things from the perspective of the supplier, not only the customer. Supplier X offers us the parking space, maybe even a charging station, but he doesn't want absolutely all people to take advantage of these things, so a secure system would be needed.

RE: Project14 | RFID or NFC: Win a Ready to Use NFC RFID Set!

ReLock: Recycling and Upcycling old 2nd hand electronic door locks

I really like the RFID or NFC approach, as the machines themselves might not need to hold as much (if any) cash, which could be attractive to thieves.

My project concept is to build an interface that could accept either coins or electronic payment, while providing the user interface to display cost of item, value of coins inserted or balance of RFID/NFC device. Once a purchase is made, the interface would dispense change or adjust the balance on the RFID/NFC device and dispense the product (driving a stepper motors to operate the dispensing device).

I want to see if the I can extend the range of small tags using a larger reader "antenna". One reason for my interest is that tags that are implanted in pets are small, but it would be useful to read them at larger distances, especially if they are to be used for applications like access control, location tracking or food dispensing.

RE: Project14 | RFID or NFC: Win a Ready to Use NFC RFID Set!

Thanks [mention:ef601b47037147bfb9b0b4a3ab63026a:e9ed411860ed4f2ba0265705b8793d05] and [mention:18d073d7306a4a8694ee59c07b9ecc65:e9ed411860ed4f2ba0265705b8793d05] . The link should work now.
