The nice thing about low tech detectors is you do not have to worry about recharging the batteries.

For a second there I thought you had created a version of Tim Hunkin's 'Common Ground' animated collection box.

I can't seem to find a good video of it on-line, I think the video must be on his DVD

Basically it is animal footprints cast into a mould with a sheet of rubber over the top covered in sawdust. A vacuum pump and pneumatic valves are used via a PLC to sequence the valves and suck the rubber sheet into the indentation of the footprint in the mould to reveal the animal's footprints one by one. It is a quite effective technique.

My dog can detect cats and has a very effective acoustic alert system which can wake up anyone - including my son.

Unfortunately she suffers from a large number of false alarms, and has been set off several times recently by whatever

creature it is that comes to eat the apples falling from the tree.
