It's July 1st. Spring Clean! is officially over. I had hoped to claim victory over clutter, but alas I broke a cable over the weekend and now the precious space that I recovered by finally finishing a project has been consumed. My second Clean-up project will be only partially finished when submitted on June 30, mostly because of workscope creep and my incredible steep learning curve (i.e. my lack of programming skills), so I kindly suggest to please add a cheese platter prize for participants like me that submit a project with alot of whining so we can enjoy Whine & cheese.

In keeping with the spirit of Spring Clean, I keep looking for projects that I can complete.
Since this isn't electronic, I'll post it here.
Back in October, I bought my youngest grandson a balance bike. It came missing the bushing that the front forks ride on. That's kind of a critical part. Since the bike was very inexpensive, the store just gave me a whole new bike and didn't want the old one back. So... I put all of the (now) spare parts in the rafters.
Periodically, I would look at the box and think, "What a shame. For lack of a simple part..."

Well... this past weekend I took the box down to throw it in the recycling and... just couldn't do it. Measure this. Measure that. I know what I can use!! Off to the hardware store.
Ah, the magic of PVC. I turned a 1-1/2" by 3/4" reducer bushing into the part I needed and the bike is ready to ride..

It did take a bit of grinding, filing and sanding, but I'm happy with the outcome. And when my grandson has outgrown it, another boy or girl will get to have it - and another child will get the other one. And I have one less box in the rafters. The rules say this:

Demonstrate your complete and functional project with a video and photographs.

What if, despite all my efforts, the design is so flawed that it does not work at its full potential, maybe not at all?

Not that it's going to be the case, but as I'm not a professional here, there is a risk that a design that I thought through 10 years ago is actually doomed to fail to some extent

The hand held digital scope looks pretty nifty, its specs disappoint me tho...

Max. input voltage 400V (DC+AC, PK - PK) on the scope part

DVM - AC Voltage 200.00mV/2.0000V/20.000V/200.00V ±(0.8%+5dig) 750.00V ±(1%+5dig)

I still cant use the handheld scope on 460 VAC circuits for checking the phase gating angles of single phase power converters or VFD outputs.

Ah the "never finished projects"... Well, I spent a lot of time devising an AT Bench power supply, have the parts, the LTSpice simulation, the schematic and even maybe the routed PCB and naively thought I could finish it during the parental leave for my first child. Well, 14 years later, it's still sitting in a neatly wrapped bag.

I'll see if I can revive this from the back of the drawers.

As a side note, the "Go to the forum" button leads me to a page that tells me to "kindly go away" . I believe that, like the other button, the link goes to "stagecommunity" instead of "community".

For the competition, I'd like to design my own simplified RISC-V microcontroller in SystemVerilog for an AMD Spartan 7 FPGA. I've always wanted to really understand how a microcontroller works, and element14 has been fantastic in introducing me to FPGAs and providing development boards through various competitions. Documenting this journey and the results is also a great way for me to give back to the community for those opportunities.
