Why the need to for minutia time tracking?

Ok let me frame the question before I get off on the wrong foot for a discussion.

I recall in one career the employer came out with a time recording system that promised great results. After two years of recording data, the exercise was abandoned. The reported results of time to complete projects was not acceptable. The data proved the time requirements but did little to help them improve time. Many of the issues to reduce time to completion they didn't want to address. They just wanted projects completed faster.

Another example was around booking resources. Let's day it take 10 minutes to book a boardroom and equipment. They centralized and automated the system to reduce the time to 5 minutes. Wow 5min for 12 people, that is an hour savings. If you cut off one finger from ten people, does that make a hand.

I'm extremely cynical when it comes to time management initiatives. Some people manage time well, others not so well. If those in the others group adapt change to improve time management, it can improve. I have discovered for others it is an exercise in frustration. They don't believe they have a time management issue.

Do you see yourself as one of the people who will change if you find 15minutes of unproductive time?

I have also had a "Pill-minder" idea for many years now. I am really surprised that there isn't a commercially available device that does what I want it to do - given the number of "pill-minders" that are available. And... it's phone based. I can't help but question the effiectiveness of another phone based app given the discussion raised in Top Tech Voices - Season 2 (please forgive me for mot rememebering the episode). While it might be useful for some... it would just be more white noise for me.

What I enjoyed most about this project is how a simple repair slowly evolved into a complete engineering exercise.

Starting with a broken prototype, recreating the documentation, redesigning the hardware, validating everything on a breadboard and then updating the firmware is quite a journey. I think many of us have experienced that moment when a "quick fix" turns into a much larger project.

A very enjoyable read. Well done!

As a Game Boy Pocket fan, I was really happy to see a retro gaming project included in Spring Clean.

I especially enjoyed the engineering aspect of discovering that the adapter could be used for something completely different and building the project from there.

And one more thing: the enclosure color is absolutely spot on. A great retro touch.

I'm also working on something on this topic, I have an ENS160+AHT21 module but recently I made a mistake with the power supply and destroyed a 3V3 and 1V8 LDO. I just need to find the components. [emoticon:98f842990f454422aa6a04953955f9d9]
