Mine powered up with only 4 AA. It also appears to implement power path management and powers off the USB C port when connected to a power source.

Sometimes it forgets the IR filter isn't in the optical path on power up and the color photos look purple [emoticon:c22324d72be24d45bf071047c6583446]

Very fun project! I like your low cost approach to detecting cats and their direction. The mechanical aspects of the project are very cool. You friction and diamond locks work very well. I have have to try some of these approaches in some of my projects, as my screw budget gets blown away every time I design/print anything.

Great project, I love it. Your design of the 3D printed parts is very ingenious.

I am now working on a design to warn about unattended cooking with stoves and cooktops that could start a fire and does not consider children and pets as people who attend the cooking. Your project is giving me new ideas, I will have to reference your work.

Nice project, very cool miniature camera/recorder : ) I'm thinking it could be used as an all-in-one device for capturing sound or image data for machine learning too, like a data logger but with sound and video capability too.

Also the photos of the old technology are amazing : ) The Steineck one looks fascinating. Also the photo with the coat-button on the camera really puts it into perspective how small it was.

The circuitry is almost identical to the solder kit I showed above. Taking shabaz's recommendation I wound a few turns on the ferrite antenna:
