Thank you to everyone who voted for my project, it is greatly appreciated and unexpected! I had been checking back to the main site, but didn't see that I won until today and was in shock!!! I hope that the project at least gave one person some ideas for something to do and maybe will help a future person when they are googling around with an issue that this might solve.

Final thought: Get out there and make something with some kids. STEM is a great thing and the more we can get kids jazzed up about the possibilities, the better it will be for them, and the country down the road.

Hi Milos - great project and what a relief that you didn't need to do any 3D printing!!!!!!

I have used AppInventor quite a lot and both Classic BlueTooth and BLE are extremely easy to use, although

I hadn't looked into other sensors on AppInventor, so the built in pedometer was news to me.......very useful, along with access to other sensors in the phone.

A really neat project nicely engineered to deliver an effective working prototype. Well done.

Thinking out aloud, you could use BLE instead of WIFI by swapping out Arduino MKR for a newer and cheaper Arduino Nano 33 BLE board. Although the nano won't fit on that nice MKR relay shield.

App Inventor has an extension for BLE which is fairly easy to use too and then use phone to send data to cloud (Thingspeak) - just use WiFi post or get option.

This is a perfect parents present for their kids...

A great concept for a project. An innovative implementation as well with an impressive mechanical content using classical technical (wood and bits of metal). Your use of MIT App Inventor package is interesting as I have thought about getting to grips with this software, but never actually got around to it. Now, it looks so simple I might have to have a go.

I had a similar but much simpler instantiation of your project concept just before Christmas. A stationary shop in my town was having building work done and during the messy stage they were giving away free chocolate bars, just to keep people coming in. You didn't even seem to have to buy anything. So on different days I had two kit-kats and a biscuit Yorkie. Yum. As I live about two miles away from the shop this was about 8000 steps(an average person does 2000 steps per mile). As a kit-kat is worth 6,900 steps then there was an overall benefit of 1,100 steps, plus I got to eat chocolate for free!

I think more shops should adopt this idea as I would definitely go to town more often.

PS Not sure what the problem might be but the images in the first half of your Blog up until Motor Mount do not seem to have loaded. The second half is fine.
