For an open session where we will cover how to use the new Verint element14 Community platform, we understand that it is a big change with a lot of future possibilities and we would like to cover some aspects that you may already know, and some that you perhaps do not, so that you can get the most out of the website!

There will also be the opportunity to ask the team, including developers, questions about the new platform.

We will start the session by covering some of your frequently asked questions and new ways of working with the element14 Community.

Examples of items we will cover include:

How is the Community structured, and what are groups?

How do I find content on the Community?

What ways can I create and customise content on the Community?

Where can I report problems and give feedback?

What happens when I provide feedback and report problems?

Time permitting, we will also talk about the migration journey of moving from Jive to Verint as a Community Platform and what that has meant for the team and the challenges that has introduced.

During the live session we will also have the opportunity for you to submit your questions live to the element14 Community staff, depending on how useful members find this session, and if we can cover everything requested, we may hold more like this in future!

Having had to implement large scale, complex content management systems, including existing site migrations, I know how difficult it can be to get it right on first release - frankly, it's impossible, and at some point you just have to go for it then work like crazy to deal with the issues and additional functionality. I think it's gone very smoothly so kudos to E14, Christy and her dev team.

NOTE: I've read and re-read what I've written below and it seems ok to me. It can be awkward to get the right tone in a written post so I hope this doesn't come over as critical or antagonistic as that definitely isn't my intent!

I mentioned on the webinar about comments being removed from the search results in the next version of Verint and whether it would apply to the 'recent content' widget; it wasn't clear to you so you asked me to put up a post to track it. This is what I mean by the recent content widget:

This is from the home page, but is replicated across the site (e.g. sitemap). It shows the 10 most recent content items posted (20 on the sitemap page.) When "View more results" is pressed, I would expect to see the, say, next 10 items but instead I see this:

This is page 1. It no longer shows just the main blog (in this case) entries but all recent content including comments - so 3 blog entries and 4 comments (off screen, there are 2 further comments and one blog entry.) Those comments make no sense in this list: they are out of context of the original post or comment being replied to; "Thanks a lot dear", "Thanks a lot" is ok in the thread, but not much use here. So as users, we're now in a position of having to 'wade' through page after page of this to try and find the actual blog/discussion/etc entries. There's no direct 'back' to the original list either, that has to be manually navigated to.

This is a problem. In a reply, I wanted to post a link to an active discussion that had dropped off the first page on the Home Page: it wasn't on page 1 of the View More Results", nor on page 2, 3 or 4 at which point I gave up. This was a thread being actively commented on during the day but was clearly superseded time-wise by others at the time. It appeared as entry 13 on the Sitemap page which is how I got to it in the end. Basically, once something drops off that initial list, it becomes very hard to just discover it which is how forum-based sites typically work. I knew that piece of content existed but what about 'just coming across' content which I might be interested in - how far down those pages do I go, browsing for posts?

You mentioned on the call that the next Verint release would provide a means of getting rid of those comments on the search page and I asked whether that would apply to the 'recent content' widget. Given this widget seems to revert to search results on pressing "View more results", my guess would be Yes and that would be great! Once comments can be removed, the Recent Content/Search Results will become a go-to means of navigating the site. In fact, for a Forum-based site I'd say it was critical.

I'd also like to talk about the filter on the right hand side as that was discussed. It is somewhat useful but is limited. For example:

Take any of these. If I wanted to limit the content to a specific group, the site puts a limited list up - if it's not in that list then I can't filter; ditto people; ditto tags. I'm guessing the site chooses the top 12 with the most entries to show but there's no multi-select nor a way of typing in an alternative. If there's anything you can do to make these filters more flexible, that would be great - frankly, that feels like it ought to be core Verint functionality so it may be better fed back to them.

Actually, I provided some feedback on my experience in trying to find a blog post I had created a number of years ago. I think that reflects the difficulties arising from these rigid filter options coupled with comments interspersed with actual content.

As was mentioned on the webinar, I understand you have limited control over some aspects and I would certainly agree that customisation (as opposed to configuration) can be problematic as Verint ships new releases. I would always recommend to my customers not to customise but learn to adapt!

Anyway, I'm not being critical. Thanks to you both for taking the time to do this, it was useful and it would be good to do another focussed on some other aspect of the site - e.g. a Search masterclass.
