The Maze Edition curriculum comes with 20 learning modules covering basic to advanced topics with lecture videos and slides, lab documentation and demonstration videos, quizzes and classroom activities. Students will learn through hands-on labs that will allow them to build the robot, problem-solve, test their designs and collaborate as a team to compete with their robots.

Training Outline

Philosophy on System Thinking

What is TI Robotic System Learning Kit (TI-RSLK)?

Quick step to getting started

Module Overview

Curriculum Pathway

Basic Kit example

Advanced Kit example

Maze Creation

Additional Information

TI-RSLK

Presenter

x

Ayesha Mayhugh

Ayesha is currently supporting WW Product Strategy for TI University program.

She is responsible for development of content and curriculum incorporating TI technology in engineering education. She was instrumental in launching the TI Power Management Lab kit (2016), first series of power management courseware for education. This was recognized by EDN as one of top power products’ of the year 2016. Recently she developed in collaboration with Dr Valvano of UT Austin the TI Robotic Systems Learning Kit – online curriculum on “Systems Thinking”.

Prior to this role she led the Industrial Interface business unit within TI’s Analog businesses. She was the product line manager and responsible for profit and loss for that organization.

She has held several leadership roles within TI including technical product manager responsible for product development and execution. During her first 8 years in TI, Ayesha was a design engineer in the power management business of TI. She led several successful projects designing DC- DC converters. She currently holds two US patents.

Ayesha earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical engineering from the University of Bombay and a Master’s degree in Electrical engineering from Texas A&M.

Webinar Recording

Click Here To View the video recording

re: Learn, Build, and Compete with TI Robotics System Learning Kit (Basic and Advanced) by rscasny

This webinar is open for enrollment. TI provides this link to Pololu’s website only as a convenience and TI is not responsible for content or services offered through that website.

• Is there an educational discount? How can a teacher did a kit?

TI has strived to keep the cost of the kit as low as possible, so currently we don’t offer any discounts. For any upcoming promotions please check back on the www.ti.com/rslk website.

• What grade level is the kit aimed at?

TI-RSLK is aimed at 2nd and 3rd year Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) university students; however, TI has seen educators wanting to

adopt this in Freshmen or first year of engineering, they will use the robot to teach some fundamentals, using the same robot kit to teach other courses as well. There is also interest from educators that teach mechatronics in the mechanical engineering department.

• Is there a simulator available?

The educator can incorporate their own lessons providing circuits and simulation, currently we build circuits and test them out.

So no simulator is used in the curriculum.

• How do you keep teachers up to date with kit upgrade & bug fixes

TI-RSLK curriculum is available on www.ti.com/rslk, the website will be maintained for any updates to content and software.

Support is also available via FAQ’s posted on this website, e2e.ti.com (support for all the engineering community for software and hardware related questions), there is also rslk_support@list.ti.com email list that can be used to answer your questions related to the curriculum. For any issues on the kit or purchase related questions you can contact element 14.

• Does the course cover software engineer topics or is it just build a robot

Majority of the curriculum allows you to develop your skills in software as you are writing code to the TI SimpleLink MSP432 microcontrollers and interfacing it to various sensors and motors. It is not teaching you software, but you are building the skills. We use C programming to write code.

• As to course planning, when might we hear about issuance of the "grant" kits? BFP Olive College

We are not sure on your reference to “ grant kits”, but please send us an email at rslk_support@list.ti.com and provide more information.

• What would the normal prerequisites be if this were given as a college course?

The prerequisites are Algebra, Math, Physics, some knowledge of computers and programming, and the curriculum does provide some fundamentals in Module 2, 3, 4. However, this can be expanded by the educator and he/she can create material which can be incorporated into the modules offered on www.ti.com/rslk to fit the educational objectives.

• What prerequisite knowledge does someone need to get started with this kit?

See above.

• Can you buy a single kit with all the material for a basic & advance set or must you buy upgrade kits?

You can purchase the Basic kit ($99) or the Advanced Kit ($199),you can see the contents on www.element14.com/rslk. If you first purchase the Basic kit and later decide you want the contents of the Advanced kit, you can simply buy the Upgrade kit ($109), since the Basic kit + Upgrade kit = Advanced kit.

• Is FSM Theory module available?

Yes, this is Module 7.

• Are the kits re-usable?

The kits are typically student owned. There is preparation involved to build the robot like soldering the Motor board, connecting the encoders to the motors, and preparing the bump switches and sensors to make connections.

• Can you buy replaceable parts?

Yes, you can buy robot and mechanical parts directly from www.pololu.com/rslk, because at this time, Element14 is not selling individual components, but just the complete kit.

• Is TI-RTOS or SimpleLink used for the real time op system?

The curriculum does not use TI-RTOS, but there is an introduction to TI RTOS in Module 20.

• Is the roadtest for the Basic or Advanced kit?

Element14 is providing the basic and the advanced kit, so you can build either.
