Interesting, thanks. We were shown the Arduino package that drives the MathCad end of the communications but what do we need to install at the Arduino end? Is there a library of functions to make a compatible comms link to MathCad, to format the data etc.

Thanks for the interesting demonstration. I am wondering if we can import custom Arduino libraries into Matlab? For example, if I want to connect to an LCD I would typically use the Arduino library found at (https://www.arduino.cc/en/Reference/LiquidCrystal ). Is there a way to use this library in the Matlab environment?

Here are the questions that we received during the webinar along with my responses to them. Hope this helps -

1) Can you post your Arduino and matlab example files?

2) Can you also interface with XBEE via Arduino? I'm thinking of IoT applications...

You can use serial transmit and receive blocks from Simulink to communicate with XBEE shields on Arduino. Here is an IoT application that can help you get started with Arduino and XBEE shields – https://www.element14.com/community/docs/DOC-79935/l/iot-helped-us-build-an-arduino-weather-station

3) Can we use more than one Arduino and make analyzes at the same time and combine them?

Definitely, but you need to ensure that you create different Arduino variables by mentioning the COM port and the board information. Data analysis is happening on MATLAB in this scenario, hence should not be a problem to combine and analyze data at the same time.

4) Hi. Quick question before we start. I have an Arduino Duemilanove, is it possible to connect this with MATLAB, I know you are only covering the Uno today.

The different boards that are supported for interfacing with MATLAB are listed here – http://www.mathworks.com/hardware-support/arduino-matlab.html

If your board of choice is not listed here, try treating it as a clone board and identify one that is closest to your pin configuration and boot loader configurations and choose that one as the board while entering the port and board on the arduino function as shown here – http://www.mathworks.com/help/supportpkg/arduinoio/ug/connect-to-arduino-hardware.html.

5) What is a clone board?

Thanks to Arduino being an open source hardware, there are lots of boards outside of the list on official Arduino website – example Sparkfun RedBoard, Adafruit’s wearable boards like Flora, Gemma etc. These are called clone boards.
