SUMMARY:Elektor Academy: Switch-Mode Replacements for 78xx/79xx Regulators
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:About the presenters: Raymond Vermeulen graduated in 2011 at Zuyd University holding a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree. His work as a design engineer at the Elektor Lab is his very first real job! He is always looking at new components and technologies hoping to incorporate them in his designs. Jan Buiting is one of Elektor’s longest standing editors, he has a broad interest in all things electronics old & new. Description: The 78xx product series has stood the test of time, it's cheap, incorporated in all sorts of devices, manufactured by several semiconductor design houses and readily available at nearly every distributor. It is simply ubiquitous. As is its negative variant, the 79xx series. But there is a downside, they are not that responsive to load fluctuations, they have a pretty high dropout voltage and they get hot! They simply waste too much power for applications that are either battery powered, unfit for large heatsinks, or suffer from sudden load variations. In this webinar Raymond Vermeulen and Jan Buiting talk about switched mode replacements for these traditional regulators which got designed by Raymond. Unfortunately they will not be sold as an assembled product, because the product end price wouldn't be competitive.
