It is simply ubiquitous. As is its negative variant, the 79xx series. But there is a downside, they are not that responsive to load fluctuations, they have a pretty high dropout voltage and they get hot! They simply waste too much power for applications that are either battery powered, unfit for large heatsinks, or suffer from sudden load variations.</span></p><p style="margin:0;padding:0px;"> </p><p style="margin:0;"><span style="font-family:'Arial','sans-serif';font-size:10pt;">In this webinar Raymond Vermeulen and Jan Buiting talk about switched mode replacements for these traditional regulators which got designed by Raymond.
