I hope you all had a great New Year. I finally got around to ordering my parts for EdX 6.01x today, and thought I'd share my approach as some of you may be in the same boat.
- The Nokia 5110 LCD is out-of-stock on several sites. Even merchants on Amazon were quoting something like 20+ days until shipment would take place. I eventually decided to go with the RTL-10773 from SparkFun. It's around USD $11 and is in stock. (It's also listed on the course website as a compatible LCD.
- I decided to go with the EK-TM4C123GXL (Tiva C) microcontroller instead of the EK-LM4F120XL just as a personal preference. As several of you have pointed out, our site says we are awaiting delivery. We generally get stock in pretty quickly, but if you're nervous about not being ready for the first day of class in two weeks, you can find product available from some of the other distributors listed on the class website. Jon & Ramesh sent out a couple of emails over the past week with links to them.
- For all other components, like resisters, LEDs, and breadboard, I purchased from Newark using the link on this site. We have just about everything else in stock, and you should get them well in time for class if you order soon.
I hope this helps. Looking forward to getting started on January 22! I was thinking of buying Jon's book on ARM microcontrollers. Has anyone else read it, or considered getting it?
