I am a huge supporter of STEM/STEAM regardless of gender. My wife used to be in IT prior to the quantity of children making it more feasible and quality of time better for her to be with them.

In addition I have 5 daughters. Sadly with our eldest 3, there still seems to be a stigma of girls being geeks, so much so that aside from a constant connection to online social media they have limited interest in actually building/programming. I am hoping to get them more involved with wearable technology since that seems to be an avenue of interest that still falls under their appropriate girl interests (to them).

My youngest are getting the full introduction to STEM/STEAM before they can get jaded by social labels. Minecraft has definitely made IT interesting to all of them and now the Codebug has made them think on their own of projects they wish to work on. :-) My third grader is already complaining that the Scratch type interface is limiting and she wants more control so I am thinking of letting her loose on some Arduino Flora projects.

Women have been making solid contributions to STEM since time began.

The reasons for their anonymity are well documented and indeed a great disservice to their contribution.

I try to encourage everyone to get involved in STEM as the opportunities have never been greater for anyone to make a contribution AND get the recognition they deserve.
