Nice compilation. I now have some idea what to get !

Like we sometimes find antique valuable stuffs on savaging, E14 has amazing posts dated very back and pops up occasionally. Some type of parametric search/ post categorization by keyword would be super useful. I looked over the list to see what I would add. A chair with lots of ergonomic options. Not unusual to spend a few hours in the sucker.

A couple of things that look concerning. Since the group leans more toward proper knowledge of electricity, and the omission is a "duh" kind of thing. It should be noted when adding power strips to a work space, the proper fused circuits are also necessary. Also might want to beef up the junction box to handle bigger loads.

My other angst is about "clean". Probably due to my OCD tendencies, but when I am starting to build something and begin the layout of parts, the last thing I want to do is to look for a clear space on the table. Also with surface mount parts if you drop them into a dirty spot (a bit of dust), on the desk or floor, it becomes the proverbial needle in a haystack. One or two, not too bad, ten or 12 and it starts to cost money.

It's nice to have a set of "helping hands clamps" on the bench and a small vise.

Your description is workbench nirvana. That transcendent place tinkers go, where there a miles of shelves with small bins of electronics consumables, no cost associated and no one to share the space with. Meals are provided through a replicator and replacing batteries is a thing of the past. Unfortunately, I had to come back from my mind trip to finish this response. Damn that was a nice place!

I have always found a supply of switches to be necessary for projects. Just the simple SPST, SPDT, DPDT, and some NO and NC push buttons to start off with.

Good article [mention:b85bafb1d1a14cd0b49feeaee407e32d:e9ed411860ed4f2ba0265705b8793d05] , I've a piece of old hardboard on my bench for soldering, it eventually gets covered it debris and flux marks and then I replace it.

I like the addition of an eye-wash station (obviously goggles should be a first line of defence) if you are any distance away from running water.

Years ago I wondered how the Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRV) worked and, instead of looking it up on the internet, started to disassemble an old TRV. It was well made and finally I decided to slice the silver top off with a cold chisel....that's when the acetone squirted out, around my glasses and into my eye.

Things Learnt on That Day:

Acetone burns the eye and hurts.
Debris and liquid splashes don't always travel in a straight line from object to eye....so proper googles with side protection are needed, not glasses.
Some TRV's contain acetone as it reacts quicker than the wax filled TRV's.
Watch other people do stupid things on Youtube means I don't have to.

This is a good set up. You could augment it with an assortment of screw drivers, a magnifier or stereo microscope, a soldering iron tip cleaner a fume extractor, some wire ties and maybe a glue gun.
