I have a fair bit of Technic Lego, although I don't play with it much now, although I always intend to, so this kit looked good and I was interested. Almost put it on my Wish list and then saw the price. A bit too much for the fun that could be had. Although .. maybe my grandson might like one, when he's old enough not to eat the parts.

Judging by the opinions expressed here that is not a very accurate assessment of its appeal.

How many 6th graders have that kind of cash in their pocket?

Seems like a nice set of hardware. I hope that they will develop (teach) more conventional programming for older students (python, e.g.). And add mobile apps since they have Bluetooth.

My kids (5 and 7) love the Lego Boost I got them recently. I've also got a Lego WeDo 2.0 that I've not given them yet. All good, but slightly different to the Spike Prime which seems to be aimed at older kids. There a quite a few options.

Scratch? What happened to the days when kids learned to program in Assembly at the command line?

This looks like a great step on from Lego Mindstorms with more flexibility on the programming side - I hope it proves to be popular. The nice thing about using Technic is that the basic kit can be expanded easily either by purchasing other complete Technic kits or by picking up random parts at fayres/sales. As [mention:b7ba740b35ec45dc933b4e03cf0b9008:e9ed411860ed4f2ba0265705b8793d05] mentions, it is a bit pricey for many home users, although on par with most games machines/Chromebooks etc.

It probably needs an unbiased community of eager technology users to take a decent look at it and see what it can achieve.
