Characters get dropped. This is quite useless as I want my class to receive the data in Python on the PC. I get this in both micro:bit Python editor and MS Makecode. I have used different micro:bits on different PCs, same result.

I tried Mu Editor and the micro:bit sends data across the serial port perfectly. I'm using V2. Is there an issue with the firmware used by MS Makecode and micro:bit Python editor?

I wrote a short Python program to read the serial port on the PC and I get the same results as with TeraTerm i.e. dropped characters, about 10% only, no major garbling.

Thanks for contacting the Micro:bit Educational Foundation.

When a WebUSB connection is used to send a program directly to micro:bit, MakeCode and the Python Editor stay connected and ready for incoming serial data.

With a serial terminal program connected, for some reason an occasional character still finds it's way to WebUSB.

Use the three dots menu on the Download/send to micro:bit button to Disconnect, or close the WebUSB connected browser tab.

I have found this easy to forget. It's taken a while, but I finally now do think "shut MakeCode" when serial is misbehaving!

For the same reason, having more than one tab with MakeCode or the Python Editor open can lead to errors.

RE: Some garbled serial comms from Micro:bit

Later I will prepare a full report of what is happening and put code up here etc.

RE: Some garbled serial comms from Micro:bit

Can you attach example images, code, settings, results etc?

Interestingly this seems to be down to dropped characters or most likely characters not sent as I don't get hardly any wrong characters. When using the MU Editor and the firmaware that it loads on to the microbit everything is OK, all characters are transmitted fine. I have tried putting a 20mS pause between each character of a string but same result.

RE: Some garbled serial comms from Micro:bit

Are you sure you are matching the correct baud-rate, parity, bit-length and stop-bits? This needs to match what is used by the program running on the Micro:bit and should match whatever serial monitor you were previously using. Common rates include 9600bps, 19200bps, 38400bps, 57600bps and 115200bps (this seems to be a Micro:bit default). Usually 8-bits, no parity, 1-stop-bit is customary.

Have you ensured compatible flow-control is set? Usually, without dedicated handshaking lines, None should be used. If it is set to XON/XOFF, this could result in some unpredictable behaviour, while setting it to RTS/CTS without the lines connected could inhibit communications entirely.

Are you only sending printable characters? As there are some escape sequences which can really "stuff up" terminals and cause them to change modes/display garbled data.

There have been all kinds of handshake protocols, drivers and and buffering schemes over the years to try to ensure the receiving software is ready to receive. You may need to specify larger buffers or a different handshake protocol, or speed up your data reception code, or slow down the sending data, although I'm surprised the defaults don't work.

programmer halo hd techtronique avec microPython sur micobit

hello

In the main program loop, forever compare the current rotation angle with the tilt value stored by button B and if it is greater than or equal to, then turn the buzzer on, else turn the buzzer off.

There is an example here which may help:
https://makecode.microbit.org/reference/input/rotation

Note that you may want to disable the buzzer until button B has stored the desired tilt threshold value otherwise the buzzer may start sounding before button B has been set. You could also initialise the tilt threshold value to a very high tilt value and then pressing button B effectively lowers it.

Also you appear to be measuring pitch and not roll in your code. This may be intentional due to the orientation of the micro:bit on the vehicle.

If you are just starting out with the micro:bit then you may be interested in getting hold of a copy of this book:
https://www.mheducation.co.uk/save-the-world-with-code-20-fun-projects-for-all-ages-using-raspberry-pi-micro-bit-and-circuit-9781260457599-emea

or perhaps taking a look at the Physical Computing course on FutureLearn:
https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/build-a-physical-computing-prototype
where if I recall correctly, the final project is a remote control car using two micro:bits

Rotation, Roll sensor, that is adjustable.
Micro:bit will be placed on the RC truck, Roll axis . Then A switch will Capture 0 value of the roll value. Then the RC truck will be tilted at 90° or whatever the role value is, before it tips over.

Here is what I have on my micro:bit, to capture the data when the air switch is pressed. And when the B button is pressed down, it captures the angle of the roll.

what I don’t know is how to include the buzzer so when it gets to the point of the data captured on the B switch, it will start buzzing.
