LEDs have reached the point of efficiency, where it makes good sense to replace all other forms of lighting.

The overall power savings to the grid just might offset the use of electrical vehicles.

We just re-wired a house during renovations, and all of the lights are LED now.

This makes me wonder if all that power-sized copper wire is soon going to be out-dated - with such a low current requirement, you'd think much thinner/cheaper wire could eventually be used instead. This would require updates to electrical codes, and probably extra requirements to stop people doing silly things, so maybe the regular wire is not expensive enough to make it worthwhile.

I also enjoy seeing automotive lighting designs changing with the new possibilities, as well as lighting options in homes getting away from the single-light-point type of lighting.

I don't know for sure, but believe that power electronics advancement in recent times may have a lot to owe to the advances in LEDs. GaN and SiC power devices became more commonplace only recently, and the knowledge was gained perhaps partially through the development of GaN and SiC for LEDs. Corroborating this is that Cree, a leader in SiC, developed LEDs first but now also offers SiC diodes and MOSFETs.

Incidentally I recently needed a phone charger and saw one advertised as using GaN devices internally. I couldn't resist it. It runs barely warm : )

I'm going with IoT lighting.  My guess is that once people get over the pseudo-post-COVID travel bug (meaning "binge"), they will continue to improve their homes, gardens, backyards - their small circle gathering spaces.  It's pretty cool to be able to control everything (in front of your friends) from your cell phone.

When vehicles have all gone driverless, vehicles will only need LED lights.

But I think the biggest application will be in farming intensification and urban farming. As soon as power storage is economical, grow-light operations will expand, or even just to implement multi-tier high-rise farming during the day. Just imagine diverting all the transportation and energy costs to local automated farming. Instead of multilevel parking structures, have multilevel grow-ops.
