(via US Army) The US Army has been known to devel...</description><dc:language>en-US</dc:language><generator>Telligent Community 12</generator><item><title>RE: US Army and MIT develop fibre optic enhanced uniforms</title><link>https://community.element14.com/learn/publications/b/blog/posts/us-army-and-mit-develop-fibre-optic-enhanced-uniforms</link><pubDate>Wed, 20 Feb 2013 21:27:04 GMT</pubDate><guid isPermaLink="false">93d5dcb4-84c2-446f-b2cb-99731719e767:3e90612d-ccd1-4733-9e19-9650bd7c4cec</guid><dc:creator>DAB</dc:creator><slash:comments>1</slash:comments><description>&lt;p&gt;Its an interesting technology.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;When I suggested the development of something like this about 30 years ago, everyone said I was nuts.&amp;nbsp; Be that as it may, I am glad to see that others have seen the potential of building a personal monitor into the clothing. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The utility of this technology goes far beyond military uses.&amp;nbsp; Anyone working in hazardous environments could benefit from this idea.&amp;nbsp; consider a coal miner, who needs to monitor methane levels, or people in the desert who need to monitor moisture loss, or even people working anywhere who get ill.&amp;nbsp; If you can detect these types of problems early, you can mitigate complications resulting from the issues you plan to monitor.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;In the sports world, you could actively keep track of the athletes physical condition during the competition.&amp;nbsp; You could greatly improve performance if you know when someone needs to be sat down for a bit to recuperate from over exertion or from a hard hit.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;There are a lot of health issues that could be detected and treated very early with this technology.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I hope it quickly moves into the public apparal options.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Lot of untapped potential here.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Just my opinion,&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;DAB&lt;/p&gt;&lt;img src="https://community.element14.com/aggbug?PostID=14568&amp;AppID=45&amp;AppType=Weblog&amp;ContentType=0" width="1" height="1"&gt;</description></item></channel></rss>
