Storm ChasersS...</description><dc:language>en-US</dc:language><generator>Telligent Community 12</generator><item><title>RE: Storm Chasers</title><link>https://community.element14.com/learn/publications/b/blog/posts/storm-chasers</link><pubDate>Mon, 19 Nov 2012 21:06:52 GMT</pubDate><guid isPermaLink="false">93d5dcb4-84c2-446f-b2cb-99731719e767:04f5323c-44fe-400c-99e1-df45a2d4e793</guid><dc:creator>DAB</dc:creator><slash:comments>0</slash:comments><description>&lt;p&gt;After following the Storm Chasers TV shows for years, one thing keeps nagging at my head.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Why do they not organize to take advantage of their numbers?&amp;nbsp; You see most of them converging on the same point only to miss the opportunity because of last minute changes.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;They would have a much better and consistant data collection if they would work together to establish a network of vehicles around the storm area so that they get complimentary data for more storms.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;From my observations, they end up missing most of the important storms because they are still very inaccurate in forcasting the weather events.&amp;nbsp; Using a more coordinated group, they could have a larger effective collection area.&amp;nbsp; More sensor sets could be involved on specific storm cells so that they could get a better running data sampling over more of the cell life cycle.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;They are mostly missing clues that could be hidden in the development cycle of each storm because they are all too busy trying to predict the action site.&amp;nbsp; This approach is too broad and way too hit and miss to yeild any consistant data.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Hopefully, this post will help alert them to establish better coordination amongst the storm chasers, both professional and amature with some basic instrumentation.&amp;nbsp; If they improve the data set, they can improve their prediction capability to a point where they might actually get to use their Radar sets for higher resolution data.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Just a thought,&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;DAB&lt;/p&gt;&lt;img src="https://community.element14.com/aggbug?PostID=15251&amp;AppID=45&amp;AppType=Weblog&amp;ContentType=0" width="1" height="1"&gt;</description></item></channel></rss>
