We use it so much so that we’ve taken it for granted much like water, but what if the sate...en-USTelligent Community 12https://community.element14.com/learn/publications/b/blog/posts/darpa-bypasses-gps-with-miniaturized-microchip-for-navigationWed, 24 Apr 2013 19:41:41 GMT93d5dcb4-84c2-446f-b2cb-99731719e767:a59c6396-6b02-4b09-ac61-a97eb4db697bDAB0<p>I am not sure I would try to navigate the world using the chip, but I could see it being very useful over a fair distance as long as you have dead reckoning points to verify your position and orientation as you go.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>I am actually surprised that someone did not come up with this sooner.</p><p>We have had very good INU&#39;s for a lot of decades and I can see where modern technology could put all of the functions into a tiny package.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>It would make a nice tracking device for military gear.&nbsp; If an enemy combatant pickup or stole weapons, the TIMU could keep track of where it is taken and as soon as it could get a communication channel, it could inform the owner as to its current location.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>I can see where theft in the future is going to be much more difficult to get away with.</p><p>You could put these things on everything and they could tell you where they are at all times.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Very interesting capability isn&#39;t it?</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Just a thought,</p><p>DAB</p><img src="https://community.element14.com/aggbug?PostID=15667&AppID=45&AppType=Weblog&ContentType=0" width="1" height="1">
