Yes, few people remember that it was IBM and not Apple that put a computer in nearly every home and in nearly every office desk.

Those early machines were robust and created an environment where applications blossomed and changed the entire way that people and businesses did their everyday tasks.

It was also a wonderful example where an Open Sources approach to the architecture exploded the innovation and applications space for the computers.
