LED driver developer Leadis Technology has unveiled two new LED drivers, which it claims can reduce the consumer cost of material and design time.

The mobile consumer electronic devices developer notes that the LDS8161 and LDS8141 drivers feature patent-pending LED-Sense Temperature Compensation engine.

According to Leadis, this feature maximizes LED reliability and brightness by enabling naturally sited monitoring of WLED junction temperature.

Donato Montanari, vice president at Leadis, claimed that while the current mobile phone trend is for increased sized displays, this can result in expensive LED-in-parallel configurations if in excess of six LEDs are needed.

"Our LDS8161 can extend the life of the parallel configuration by allowing system designers to safely drive more current through the individual LEDs," he pointed out.

According to Leadis, efficiency is increased to 98 per cent by the LED drivers, helping to prolong battery life.

Leadis Technology, based in California, designs and develops analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, capacitive touch controller ICs, LED drivers and colour display drivers.
