RF Micro Devices' new amplifier components for broadband and other high-frequency applications are the first to operate above 20GHz.

The new amplifiers deliver superior gain and an output power of up to 35GHz and are based on GaAs pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistor.

Jeff Shealy, general manager of RFMD's defence and power business unit, said: "This new family of distributed amplifiers which have been designed specifically for high-frequency applications such as modulators, broadband test equipment, wideband gain blocks in military and space applications.

"These new products deliver superior performance and provide a solid foundation for our broadband microwave amplifier product family."

He added that the new components could also be used in laser drivers and clock drivers for fibre optics.

The SDA-1000, 2000, 3000, 4000 and 5000 series product family will soon be expanded to include two high-performance amplifiers capable of operating at 50GHz frequencies.

It follows the launch of four new high-isolation broadband switches by the company earlier this month.
