A new resistor from Vishay has been designed to be both high power (5W) and low value (0.001O).

The new WSR high-power metal strip resistor is moulded for high temperature encapsulation, with improved thermal management incorporated into its design.

Vishay's newest range of resistor is also adaptable and can be used in a variety of circuits, including current sensing, voltage division and pulse applications, such as switching, instrumentation and power amplifiers.

The solid metal nickel-chrome or manganese-copper alloy is resistive with low TCR and has solderable terminations.

Its proprietary processing technique also ensure the resistor produces extremely resistance values.

The resistor also features an all-welded construction and an integral heat sink that is not utilised for resistance values less than 0.0075O.

Vishay also recently released four new technical notes explaining the advantages of its bulk metal foil and z-foil resistors.

The notes focus on the resistors sensitivity, non-linear resistance to temperature, prediction of drift and pulse load capability.
