A new constant control LED driver integrated circuit (IC) has been unveiled by California-based semiconductor manufacturer Supertex.

The HV9961 is designed for a variety of solid-state lighting applications, providing a current accuracy of plus or minus three per cent and requiring no loop compensation or high-side current sensing due to the company's average-mode control scheme.

Hiccup-mode LED short-circuit protection is also featured in the product, in addition to linear and PMW dimming.

"The HV9961 employs a novel circuit architecture to achieve fast and accurate output current control," commented Ahmed Masood, vice-president of marketing at Supertex.

"With its wide input voltage range, this device is well suited for a host of LED lighting applications."

Potential applications for the HV9961 include street, architectural, decorative and industrial lighting, as well as backlighting LCD screens.

The firm recently introduced to the market the HV9985, a three-channel LED driver IC designed to provide high current accuracy through closed loop control of the output current.
