LED systems design tool launched

The first online design tool for solid-state lighting applications with the ability to calculate system costs and payback schedules has been released by Future Lighting Solutions.

SSL Designer, which is intended as the starting point for developing LED systems, allows users to determine the minimum number of LEDs and optimal drive current to meet a specific light output and lifetime targets.

The program will also enable designers to calculate the total cost of ownership of a given system compared to a traditional lamp-based design and work out the time needed to recover LED system costs.

Patrick Durand, worldwide technical director at Future Lighting Solutions, said the program reduces the time-to-market of systems because it allows designers to get their system right on the first go.

"SSL Designer is an all-in-one software tool for assisting lighting designers in making critical design decisions such as LED type, count and drive current," he commented.

The firm recently helped Braun to install eight LED street lamps on Berlin's Alexanderplatz Square, slashing power consumption by more than 90 per cent.
