&lt;p style="margin:0;"&gt;LED technology has received the backing of a former prime minister and a Chinese movie star after a project was launched to provide 1,000 villages in China with LED lighting.&lt;span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In a joint initiative between The Climate Group and the Jet Li One Foundation, Tony Blair and Jet Li have launched the 1,000 Village Solar LED Initiative in Guiyang, China.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Due to the constraints of getting rural Chinese locations connected to the grid, alternative technologies such as solar LED have become increasingly popular as a cheap and efficient lighting source.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;quot;There is a credible, practical, realistic as well as radical way to act,&amp;quot; commented the former prime minister.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;quot;But we need to start making these decisions now which is why I am delighted to be supporting this initiative with Jet Li today.&amp;quot;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The news follows an announcement from Osram that the firm has launched a pilot programme to demonstrate the LED street lighting of the future in Furth, Germany.&lt;a href="http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&amp;amp;itemid=19331507"&gt;&lt;img alt="ADNFCR-1785-ID-19331507-ADNFCR" src="http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&amp;amp;itemid=19331507" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;div style="clear:both;"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
