According to Ars Technica, the Google Search Appliance can now search data from Salesforce, the most popular type of customer relationship management.

The device is said to be capable of searching across more than one billion documents, allowing businesses to enter far more offline data.

Writing on the technology blog, computing expert David Chartier said the new range of electronic products proved Google's ability to "meld online and offline data no matter where it is located".

The most popular product in the range, noted Mr Chartier, is likely to be the Salesforce connector.

Released through Google's Enterprise Labs, the device is still said to be in the "experimental" stages of development although its manufacturers have confirmed it can search sales reports and consumer correspondence along with content stored on Google Apps.

In other news, Google is currently being challenged by Yahoo and an alliance of other organisations on a recent settlement allowing the search engine giant the opportunity to digitise and sell millions of books online.
