Shin-Etsu introduces new LED silicone products

Japanese semiconductor firm Shin-Etsu Chemical has developed new silicone products for use with high-brightness LEDs.

The SWC Series' advanced silicone reflectors are designed to greatly improve the brightness output of LEDs, while possessing superior heat resistance and photo-thermal stability.

Additionally, the new LPS-AF Series consists of protective, transparent film materials and is also highly heat-resistant, as well as being compounded with phosphors which can easily and evenly change blue light to white, improving colour uniformity.

The materials are designed for application in lighting products as well as backlighting units in LCD TVs.

Shin-Etsu predicts that the market size of reflector materials for LEDs will expand from the current ¥2.5 billion (£16.4 million) to ¥7.5 billion (£49.5 million) in 2013 and plans to establish its production systems at an early stage.

The firm recently completed the procedures required to make its affiliate CIRES, a company manufacturing and selling PVC in Europe, a wholly-owned Shin-Etsu subsidiary.
