Airline lights the way with LEDs

American Airlines is replacing thousands of its traditional lighting fixtures with energy-efficient LEDs. The project is being carried out with Oncor in what is one of the largest single installations of its kind in the United States. Installation is currently underway as part of the Take A Load Off, Texas LED Lighting Program being run by Oncor. This offsets some of the cost of installing the LED lighting system with incentives that help save electricity. "With their long lifespans and durability, LEDs offer operational savings and can be a major component in reducing carbon footprints," said Michael Stockard, Oncor energy efficiency programmes director. LED lighting consumes 60 per cent less energy and lasts three times longer than traditional light sources.
