Optek's LED donation 'made contest a success'

A project which was entered into a design competition in North Carolina would not have been a success without a donation of LEDs from Optek Technology, according to one student.

Matt Poisel, who studies civil engineering at North Carolina State University - which markets itself as one the top public institutions in the US - said that his team's concept involved a Plexiglass panel with sandblasted designs.

His comments follow the students' victory at the 2009 North Carolina Engineering Day for their plan to illuminate a pedestrian bridge at the Legislative Complex in Raleigh, North Carolina.

"Optek's LEDs were placed in the frame of each panel to provide just the right amount of light to illuminate the bridge without excessive light pollution to the surrounding areas," stated Mr Poisel.

Alan Bennett, Optek's vice-president of worldwide sales, added that the 200 high brightness LED light strips the firm donated provided an ideal energy-saving lighting solution for the bridge design.
