Designer and manufacturer of high-performance analog and mixed-signal semiconductors Interil Corporation has announced a new alliance.

The firm has teamed up with the Georgia Institute of Technology and as part of the development, a new range of programmes and a facility dedicated to the research and development of advanced power management semiconductor technologies have been introduced.

Furthermore, a new on-campus 4,300 square-foot ACE Center will also be built as part of the alliance.

Georgia Tech President GP Peterson said: "Georgia Tech's partnership with Intersil is an ideal example of academic and industrial leaders joining forces to co-develop advanced real-world technologies."

It is hoped that the initiative will lead to significant savings in the data centres of the future, as well as electrical grids.

In other semiconductor news, the Inquirer recently reported that the Chinese market for such products is set to expand rapidly over the next few years after it experienced a decline in fortunes during 2009.
