&lt;span&gt;A new alliance has been agreed between Innovations In Optics and Bayer MaterialScience (BMS).&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;The former will use the latter&amp;#39;s polycarbonate resins in the production of its new LumiBright LE line of LED lighting products.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;According to European Plastics News, a resin was required that could withstand high levels of heat, as well as remain resistant to yellowing.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;As a result, BMS Makrolon LED 2045 grade resin was selected, as it is also transparent.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Thomas Brukilacchio, president of Innovations in Optics, said: &amp;amp;quot;Polycarbonate is already mechanically a great material - for example, it doesn&amp;#39;t crack when we need to lock it down with self-tapping screws.&amp;amp;quot;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;He added that &amp;amp;quot;several months&amp;amp;quot; were spent evaluating different plastic materials until the perfect solution was found.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Columnist John Ewoldt recently wrote for the StarTribune.com that LEDs are beneficial because they can tolerate low temperatures and are free from mercury.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;He explained that they are also flicker free and turn on instantly.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&amp;amp;itemid=19445925"&gt;&lt;img alt="ADNFCR-1785-ID-19445925-ADNFCR" src="http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&amp;amp;itemid=19445925" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;div style="clear:both;"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
