New clear polyurethane launched for use with LEDs

A new optically clear polyurethane suitable for use with electronic equipment that utilises LEDs has been launched.

Intertronics has introduced the Opti-tec 4200 encapsulant/potting compound and adhesive that is useful in instances where high transparency and aesthetics are important.

Because of this, it can be used for protecting photovoltaic and solar-panel projects, Electronicstalk.com reports.

Opti-tec 4200 also has non-yellowing properties because of additional UV stabiliser and antioxidants, which means that it can be used in everything from high-value LED panels to decorative giftware.

Easy to mix, the material is available in side-by-side double-syringe cartridges, twin-pack sachets and bulk packaging.

The news provider reports that because of its hard-setting properties, the product can also be used for larger projects such as pathways, swimming pools, public installations and outdoor signage.

Last week, it was reported that some rail operators in Japan are introducing blue LED lights into train stations on Tokyo's central train loop, the Yamanote line.

This is because they are thought to have a soothing effect and it is hoped that they could help to reduce the number of suicide attempts.
