&lt;span&gt;One utilities provider has encouraged people to use energy-efficient LED bulbs on their Christmas trees by launching a new exchange programme.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;San Diego Gas &amp;amp; Electric offered those gathering outside Coronado City Hall the opportunity to swap their old incandescent lights for low-power LED alternatives.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, this event was part of a growing &amp;amp;quot;national movement&amp;amp;quot; that is seeing more and more people turn to more efficient sources of light.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;This could reduce their power bills and relieve some of the pressure currently being placed on power grids, the news provider explains.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Michael Meacham, conservation director at Chula Vista, said that LEDs have &amp;amp;quot;a lot of advantages&amp;amp;quot;.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;&amp;amp;quot;As the product becomes more and more reliable and applicable to different uses, it will be more widely adopted,&amp;amp;quot; he added.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;In other LED news, Dialight recently announced that it has signed a new contract that will see its LED white strobe technology used by an unnamed US telecom tower operator.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&amp;amp;itemid=19462109"&gt;&lt;img alt="ADNFCR-1785-ID-19462109-ADNFCR" src="http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&amp;amp;itemid=19462109" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;div style="clear:both;"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
