NXP Semiconductors has released a new series of microcontrollers which can be connected via a USB port, it has emerged.

The LPC1340 supports all four transfer types and uses on-chip drivers certified by USB-IF to enable full-speed USB 2.0 connectivity.

Geoff Lees, vice-president and general manager of the microcontroller product line at NXP semiconductors, highlighted the product's fully integrated open-source development tools for the ARM Cortex system

He added: "Having introduced the first Cortex-M0 based LPC1100 MCU series just weeks ago, we are now adding easy-to-use USB connectivity to our pin-compatible Cortex-M3 series."

According to the company, the microcontroller is supported by VDE IEC 60335 Class B test libraries, which will offer help to customers who are in this category's certification process.

In related news, last week National Instruments introduced the PXI Semiconductor Suite, which can be used to test a variety of devices.

It allows for data rates of up to 400 Mbps, so engineers can test high-speed chip designs using the product.
