Diodes Incorporated 'rewarded for being green'

Diodes Incorporated has been chosen as north-west England's winner of the Environmental Achievement Award, as a result of the success the company has had in cutting its energy usage.

The firm was able to cut its carbon footprint by a half at its semiconductor wafer fabrication centre in Oldham, which was recognised at the British Gas-sponsored EEF Future Manufacturing Awards.

David Ost, director of the EEF's north-west region, claimed that these awards show that the manufacturing industry in the UK has not lost its edge.

He explained: "There are companies right here that are breaking down barriers, reinventing the rules and reaching out for new opportunities to create a manufacturing industry we can be proud of."

The ceremony took place at the Imperial War Museum in Manchester, with the company now nominated for the national finals in February 2010.

Meanwhile, Zarlink Semiconductors recently won the Emerging Technology Award at the Institution of Engineering and Technology's Innovation Awards 2009 in London.
