Fairchild Semiconductors releases PWM controllers

Fairchild Semiconductors has announced the release of a portfolio of pulse-width modulated (PWM) controllers, which offer electronic device designers high-voltage start ups.

The company explained that it has released the range of PWM controller products to meet the demand for energy-saving devices and the regulations that surround them.

Items such as the FAN6754 allow notebook power-supply designers to achieve energy savings of 25 per cent at a light load compared with other solutions.

"Fairchild's PWM controllers incorporate several design features that lower the overall power consumption of notebook adapters, such as a proprietary green-mode function that provides off-time modulation," the company added.

One of the products which has benefited from the new range is ENERGY STAR External Power Supply version 2.0, which requires 87 per cent average active-mode efficiency to comply with regulations.

This week, Zarlink Semiconductor won an award for its part in the development of an energy harvesting microgenerator for use in medical devices.
