Semiconductor industry 'set for boost' in 2010

A new survey has indicated that 2010 could be a positive year for the semiconductor sector, with increased production and sales figures.

According to a report by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) quoted in the Joong Ang Daily, the value of production could rise by 27.4 per cent to reach $30.1 billion (£18.9 billion).

The news provider explained that the last quarter of this year has seen a recovery in the semiconductor industry, which could enjoy significant growth over the next 12 months.

Sales in the sector could increase by 24.4 per cent to $38.5 billion, if the KCCI report is to be believed.

"Amid signs of an economic recovery  manufacturers in some sectors, including semiconductors, steel, machinery and electronics, have rosy sales outlooks for 2010," wrote Lee Eun-joo in the publication.

The KCCI, which was established in 1884, represents 71 regional chambers in the Korean economy in producing research and developing economic cooperation in the private sector.
