&lt;span&gt;An energy supplier in the UK is offering new LED technology to local authorities to help them light their streets using less power.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;E.ON told Business Green that its Marlin lighting product could cut the quantity of energy used by 70 per cent and the company claimed that it is the first low-power streetlight to be manufactured and developed in the UK.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;The news provider explained that the item was created in partnership with Advanced LEDs and will be pitched to private companies as well as public authorities.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Rachel Hodge, a representative from the energy firm, was quoted as saying: &amp;amp;quot;We&amp;#39;re bidding for a number of highway and streetlighting contracts and wanted to demonstrate a step change within the efficiency of lighting.&amp;amp;quot;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;According to Business Green, the bulbs contain no harmful mercury or heavy metals.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Last week, Welsh company Lomox Limited were awarded more than £450,000 by the Carbon Trust to develop organic LED technology, which could allow flat-panel screens of low-energy light.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&amp;amp;itemid=19537229"&gt;&lt;img alt="ADNFCR-1785-ID-19537229-ADNFCR" src="http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&amp;amp;itemid=19537229" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;div style="clear:both;"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
