Telecoms market 'set for continued growth in 2010'

Despite the difficult economic climate, one research firm has suggested that the telecoms sector could still see growth in certain global markets.

Girish Triveldi, deputy director for the South Asia and Middle East region at Frost & Sullivan, claimed that technological advancements such as 3G could spur spending patterns on to further increases in the area.

The company explained that spending in the telecom sector in India in 2008 was over $21.5 billion (£13.3 billion) and this could rise to $25.1 billion by 2015.

Over the same time period, the equivalent figure in Bangladesh could increase from $1.7 billion to $2 billion, while in Sri Lanka it is predicted to go from $589.4 million to $592.6 million, continued the report.

Mr Triveldi added: "Investments in broadband and carrier networks and multimedia and value-added services will gain significant traction in these regions."

This week, Frost & Sullivan noted a new trend in which companies in the South Asia and Middle East region are adopting third party data centre services.
