OLEDs 'could be the future of board games'

A team of researchers has predicted that thin-film OLED screens could be used for board games in the future and has developed new technology to anticipate what it could look like.

The camera tracking and projection system was created by Queens' University, Ontario graduate Mike Rooke and Professor Roel Vertegaal, an associate professor in the Human Media Lab at the same institution.

Professor Vertegaal explained that they wanted to see what could be done with such OLED screens and soon realised that in the future, almost anything could be turned into a display screen.

He described the tracking and projecting system as "just the beginning" and predicted that electronic screens could soon be embedded in many real-world interactions.

"In the near future, a computer will have any shape or form and iPhone-like computer displays will start appearing on any product," commented Professor Vertegaal.

It was revealed that two new series of Samsung digital cameras - the WB650 and WB600 - will feature OLED displays.
