Philips Lumileds Luxeon Rebel LEDs used in GreenStar outdoor product

A new outdoor lighting solution aimed at areas that want their streets lit up in an environmentally-friendly way uses Philips Lumileds Luxeon Rebel LEDs to achieve its glow.

The GreenStar Galaxy series reduces energy consumption and cuts costs as a result of the low-power devices used, according to the manufacturers.

As well as boasting heat dissipation technology to ensure reliability, the product also offers a lifetime guarantee on its sensor system and aims to minimise light pollution while still delivering effective beams of light.

Philips Lumileds executive vice-president for sales and marketing Steve Barlow claimed that the use of its bulbs has allowed GreenStar to optimise the performance of the lighting solution.

He added: "Our Luxeon LEDs deliver industry-leading lumen maintenance and reliability and provide best-in-class light output and efficacy at actual solution operating conditions."

Industry commentator Munisamy Anandan recently predicted that there could be a shortage of LEDs in 2010 due to the number of products that use the bulbs.
